The physiology is direct about it: muscle contraction increases the muscle's own sensitivity to insulin, and muscle-derived signaling molecules called myokines improve glucose handling throughout the body. Muscle mass also declines naturally with age — a decline that accelerates in people already trending toward metabolic dysfunction.

‍ Strip it all the way down, and insulin resistance is a muscle-level story. That reframes the entire metabolic conversation, because it means the most important thing you can protect isn't a number on a lab report.
